Warm-up Practice
1. What would you say in the following situations?
l introducing yourself
l introducing some one else
l greeting a stranger
l greeting an acquaintance
2. Discuss with your partner and tick those you think we often do when we meet each other for the first time. Add those that you think are not listed below Then compare with your partners.
l shake hands
l exchange business cards
l ask personal questions
l embrace each other
l kiss each other on the cheek
l talk about everything under the sun
l just nod and smile
l say “Hi” or “Hello”
l say “ How do you do?”
l talk about the weather
3. In chinese-speaking communities. We often greet acquaintances with expressions like “ Where are you going?” or “Have you eaten yet? Can we greet foreigners thisway? Why or Why not?

c. Work in pairs , using the situations given below.
